A superb batting performance by Delhi Daredevils helped them beat Mumbai Indians by 37 runs.

Today in the 36th match of DLF IPL 2012, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first. The decision proved costly as Delhi Daredevils got off to a flying start with M Jayawardene and V Sehwag adding 135 runs for the first wicket partnership in just 13.1 overs. The stage was all set for a huge total and even after the wicket of M Jayawardene (55 runs off 42 balls, 8×4), Sehwag and Kevin Pietersen hammered Mumbai bowlers. Sehwag was the next to get dismissed after scoring a brilliant 73 off 39 balls which included 8 fours and 4 sixes. Kevin Pietersen then started from where Sehwag left, he smashed 50 off just 26 balls(6×4, 3×6) and helped Delhi post a huge total of 207/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 208 to win, Mumbai Indians got off to the worst possible start as they lost A Blizzard for a duck on the third ball of the innings. Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma then took the score to 19 when twin blow pegged Mumbai back as they lost both Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma and were reduced to 19/3 in 3.1 overs. D Karthik and A Rayudu then played some good shots and 96 run partnership brought Mumbai back on track for the run chase as they needed 93 from last 7 overs. Agarkar gave Delhi the much needed breakthrough as he bowled Karthik. With this wicket, the chances of Mumbai diminished and the twin blow in the 17th over ended all hopes and finally Mumbai got down struggling and lost the match by 37 runs.
