In the 34th match of Pepsi IPL,Chennai Super Kings for the very first time took on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bat first. Shikhar Dhawan and Quinton de Kock opened the innings but Quinton de Kock got out on the third ball of the innings leaving Sunrisers at 4/1 in 0.3 overs. Hanuma Vihari also failed as was run out by Raina and Sunrisers looked in trouble at 12/2 in 2 overs. Coming back from injury, Shikhar Dhawan stood firm on one end and placed the ball well. Wickets kept falling on other end but Dhawan continued where he left in the test match against Australia. At one stage, Sunrisers were struggling at 61/4 in 9.5 overs. But some good shots by the lower middle order and 45 ball 63 runs by Dhawan helped them post a total of 159/6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 160 to win, Chennai got off to a flying start as openers Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay scored 65 runs in just 7.2 overs for the first wicket stand. Murli Vijay was the first wicket to fall as he got out after scoring 18 off 22 balls. M Hussey also got out soon leaving CSK at 76/2 in 9.2 overs. Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni were again left with the responsibility to take CSK to a win and captain cool shouldered this responsibility well. He demolished Sunrisers bowling attack with a 37 ball 67 (7 fours and 4 sixes) to take his team to a 5 wicket win.
