Chennai Super Kings continued their superb performance in crucial matches and defeated Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets to qualify for the second qualifier which will be played against Kings XI Punjab. The winner of that match will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the final to be played on June 1.

Chasing 174 to win, Chennai Super Kings got off to a flying start as openers Dwayne Smith and Faf du Plessis added 60 runs for the first wicket stand. A twin blow by Harbhajan Singh in the 7th over raised some hopes for Mumbai but Suresh Raina once again came to the team’s rescue. Brendon McCullum fell cheaply and CSK were placed at 87/3 in 9.5 overs. Suresh Raina and David Hussey then made sure that CSK continue the run chase without any more hiccups. The duo played excellent cricket shots to make sure Chennai qualifies for the next match. Suresh Raina remained unbeaten on 54 off 33 balls where as David Hussey remained unbeaten on 40 in 29 balls as they chased down 173 with 8 balls to spare.

Earlier Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field first. Mumbai Indians got off to a superb start as openers Lendl Simmons and Michael Hussey added 76 runs for the first wicket stand. Jadeja got the first breakthrough for Chennai as he bowled out Michael Hussey (39 off 33 balls). Star of the last match, Corey Anderson scored a quickfire 20 before falling to Ashwin. Mumbai were well placed at 99/2 in 12.1 overs and were looking at a huge total. Ravindra Jadeja got the priced wicket of Lendl Simmons and turned the fortunes of the match. Mumbai who were cruising at one stage suddenly lost the momentum and the wickets started to fall as pack of cards.Finally Mumbai were able to post 173/8 in 20 overs.
