Today in the 67th match of IPL 2013, Delhi won the toss and invited KXIP to bat first. Openers Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh gave them flying start as they added 60 in 7.3 overs before Gilchrist got out after scoring quick fire 42 off 26 balls. Azhar Mahmood then fell cheaply as he scored just 9 but man in form David Miller and Shaun Marsh then took the team score past 100. Shaun Marsh fell to Morkel after scoring 45 leaving KXIP at 120/3 in 16.2 overs. But a cameo of 44 in 25 balls which included 3 fours and 4 sixes by David Miller and 13 ball 22 by Rajagopal Sathish helped KXIP post a decent total of 171/4 in 20 overs.

Chasing 172 to win and knock of Kings XI Punjab from the league, Delhi changed the opening pair and opened with Mahela Jayawardene and Unmukt Chand. But the result remained same as they lost Chand in the 3rd over when the team score was just 11. Irfan Pathan was then sent to the center to increase the run rate but he failed as got out after scoring just 1. Man in form David Warner got out for a duck as this twin blow in the 4th over left Delhi reeling at 12/3 in 4 overs. Captain Mahela and Virender Sehwag then steadied the innings and took the score past 50. Just when the duo started to look dangerous, Awana striked and got the wicket of Sehwag who scored 30 in 22 balls. Mahela Jayawardene and Ben Rohrer then took the charge and kept Delhi’s hopes alive. The duo took the the team score past 100 and in the bid to increase the run rate, Mahela Jayawardene got out in the 17th over when the team score was 111. Needing 61 to win from last 4 overs, it was a Herculean task but Ben Rohrer played a cameo and hit few sixes to bring the equation back in Delhi’s favor. 19 runs came in the 19th over and Delhi needed 22 from the final over. Ben Rohrer got out on the very first ball of the over after playing superbly for his 29 ball 49 which included 4 fours and 3 sixes. Morne Morkel hit two sixes but Delhi finally fell short by 7 runs and thus KXIP kept the chances to advance into playoffs alive.
