Result – Royal Challengers Bangalore won by 24 Runs

Today in the 70th match of IPL 2013, rain played a spoilsport and at one stage nervous RCB players were seen roaming all over the park. Captain Kohli and his team knew, if the match is abandoned, they will be out from Season 6 of IPL as Sunrisers will qualify for the 4th spot.

The prayers of RCB players and fans were finally answered as rain stopped but the match was reduced to a 8 over game.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field first. Captain Kohli and Chris Gayle opened the innings for RCB and the duo were in no mood to forgive Chennai bowlers. RCB players knew this was a do or die situation and thus the enthusiasm and eagerness to perform was seen. The openers added 67 runs in just 5.2 overs before Gayle got out after scoring 28 off 13 which included 4 sixes. Captain Virat Kohli lead from front and remained unbeaten on 56 off 29 balls which included 6 fours and 4 sixes. Finally three fours in three balls by Moises Henriques helped Royal Challengers Bangalore post a good total of 106/2 in 8 overs.

Chasing 107 in 8 overs, Chennai Super Kings opened with Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay. Two wickets on consecutive balls by Zaheer Khan reduced CSK to 11/2 in 1.4 overs. Michael Hussey got out after scoring just 6 where as Suresh Raina got out on the very first ball he faced on a duck. Dwayne Bravo and Murali Vijay then took the score to 29 before Bravo got out after scoring just 11. Needing 78 more to win from 4, Murali Vijay hit few sixes but fell eventually after scoring 32 off 18 balls. The pressure of increasing run rate was too much and despite brilliant 24 off 10 balls by MS Dhoni, CSK could manage to score 82/6 and thus lost the match by 24 runs. With this win, all eyes are now on Sunday’s Sunrisers encounter as if Hyderbad wins that match, RCB will be knocked out of IPL 2013.
