Man of the match – Glenn Maxwell
The scintillating batting display continues by Glen Maxwell and so does the winning streak of Kings XI Punjab. Kings XI Punjab who were invited to bat first by Sunrisers got off to a flying start with both openers, Sehwag and Pujara adding on 51 runs in 6.4 overs before Sehwag got out (30 off 22 balls 2×4, 3×6). This fall of wicket bought the leading run scorer so far in IPL, Maxwell to the crease and crackers started to burst all over. Right from the first ball he attacked each and every Sunriser bowler and scored a brilliant 95 off 43 balls (5×4, 9×6) and helped Kings XI Punjab post a decent total of 193/6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 194 needed a solid start but captain Shikar Dhawan got out in the second over leaving the team at 11/1 in 1.2 overs. Soon a twin blow by Balaji in the 5th over put Sunrisers in a dock as he got the priced wickets of Aaron Finch and David Warner. Sunrisers Hyderabad were struggling at 33/3 in 4.5 overs and needed some one to play till the end. But the increasing run rate pressurized the batsmen to play wrong shots and wickets started falling one after the another. With 5 key wickets down at the score of 74 in the 11th over, it looked all over for Sunrisers. Lokesh Rahul scored a run a ball 27 but it was too little too late and eventually Sunrisers were bundled out for 121 and thus lost the match by 72 runs. It was the third successive win for Kings XI Punjab in as many matches and thus they moved to the top of Points table.
