Today in the much awaited final of IPL 2013, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. Mumbai got off to the worst possible start as they lost Dwayne Smith on the 4th ball of the innings when the team score was just 4. Aditya Tare got out for a duck leaving Mumbai at 8/2 in 1.1 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma was the next to go as he got out for just 2 leaving Mumbai in all sorts of problems at 16/3 in 3.2 overs. Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu then came the teams rescue and the duo took the score past 50. Just when they started to look dangerous, Morris bowled Dinesh Karthik leaving Mumbai at 52/4in 9.3 overs. Once again the responsibility to bail his team out of crisis fell on the shoulders of Kieron Pollard and he played a superb innings of 60 off 32 balls (4×7,6×3) and along with Rayudu (37 off 36 balls) and Harbhajan Singh (14 off 8 balls) helped Mumbai post a total of 148/9 in 20 overs.
Chasing 149 to be the IPL 2013 winner, Chennai Super Kings also got off the worst possible start as they lost Michael Hussey and Suresh Raina in the very first over and the score read 2/2 in 0.5 overs. The woes did not end as they lost Subramaniam Badrinath in the second over and CSK were reduced to 3/3 in 1.4 overs. Murali Vijay and Dwayne Bravo then tried to bring CSK back in the race as the duo took the score to 35 when Dhawan got the wicket of D Bravo. Ravindra Jadeja then played a lose shot and fell to Harbhajan Singh soon followed by Murali Vijay. With scorecard reading at 39/6 in 7.3 overs, the only hope for CSK was captain MS Dhoni. Though wicket kept falling at the other end and CSK looked down and out as CSK were 58/8 in 11.3 overs, MS Dhoni stood firm on one end. CSK needed 76 to win from last 6 overs and had 2 wickets in hand. Mumbai looked in total control but MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin made sure that CSK fights till the end and Mumbai need to sweat hard for the win. The duo added 41 runs before Ravichandran Ashwin got out in the 18th over leaving CSK at 99/9. MS Dhoni completed his half century but the lone warrior for CSK could not ensure his team’s victory and finally CSK were able to score 125/9 and thus Mumbai Indians won the IPL 2013 title by defeating CSK by 23 runs.
